IPALM – TII Abnormal Load Management in Ireland

Research Driven Solutions Ltd. (RDS) were commissioned by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to determine the most appropriate national administrative structure and decision-making process for Abnormal Load Management in the Republic of Ireland. The goal is to facilitate industrial activity while ensuring adequate protection of the road network asset. The project included a review of the current system in place in Ireland, engagement with the stakeholders and users of the system, and review of international best practice. Following these tasks, an appropriate Policy, Strategy, and Framework for managing abnormal loads in Ireland were developed as well as recommendations for improvements of current procedures for issuing permits to abnormal load vehicles.
